they start young...real young
The other day my Dad wanted a thousand dirahams and none of us had that kind of money on us , so he asked me to go and fetch some from the ATM . (off subject: My dad gets us to do all the boring jobs, go to the atm, get down from the car and chk the rear tyre, go to the vending machine and get a coke so what if there are 10 thousand men standing there... but the moment we wanna go out with some frnds and the mere mention of "boys" comes out.. who boys? how do u know them? ... so it is ok if we mingle with strange men but not with guys we actually know..hmmm...supressed we are, i m telling you!!)
Back to the story:
Baby sis (who is 10 btw), wanted me to drop her off at the Park., which is like 5 blocks away but her highness needs to be DROPPED off...n if i go off to the ATM she might be LATE..so she offers the "thousand" dirhams. She collected a thousand dirhams in her lil red money box.
(now comes the interesting part)
Baby Sis: when u gonna pay me back?
Dad: next week
BS: Date please..
Dad: 30 May
BS: What do u want it for?
Dad(really annoyed): For blah blabdjk
*after 10 mins*
She hands Dad two sheets of paper :
Moe (that is dad) borrowed 1,000 AED from (her full name) on (date).
He wanted this money for *blah blabdjk* and will return the money on (in bold) 30 May 2005.
Signed
_________________
Moe
with love, i love u so much dad. *kissy lips*
*end of sheet*
Last night she handed the paper to my dad and said, "Ba I think u owe someone money".
My dad tore the paper and said,"What proof?"
Baby Sis: That was only a copy, I got al to make 10 copies with ur signature.
Dad: Ya Allah, y didnt u give me boys??
Mind you, My dad was just kidding with her when he tore the paper and he loves his daughters , bas he only thinks that if he had boys they would have RESPECTED him and he wouldnt be broke all the time.
Cheers
Al :)

Well it doesnt really matter BUT I want to voice it anyway.
There are two groups, the Locals (Emiratis) and the rest of the world (expats).
It doesnt matter how much hatred the French and the English, the English and the Americans, the Indians and the Pakis (hehhe Osama) have between them, when it comes down to the Emiratis, they are just being despised ..WHY??? we dont know. The fact is no body knows.
How many expats do ACTUALLY work with the locals??
@ Etisalat , at DEWA , where they(the expats) have to TRAIN these young ppl on how to work and who are eventually going to take their job away from them. This arises a sense of insecurity and dislike towards the young group...and the latter too being humans respond the same way.
Personal Experience:
I went to a private school so most of my friends are expats. Met this one guy at a party at it was instant spark between us (not that way.. yanii we became fast friends), he works at the bank, the same bank my cousin works at; so i just ask him if he knew H and he did but his reaction completely changed from there.
"Hey H is a local how can he be ur cousin?"
"well his dad and my dad are brothers...his dad being my uncle.." (yeah i like to stretch things)
"oh..!!"
Later he told me the bank was hiring locals because of emiritazation and they were training these ppl and all. Nobody trained him, he went to uni to get all his training ,, these guys were gettin it free so he was kinda envious of that (not exact words).
Emiratis (most of them) go to govt. schools where they interact with other emiratis. They do not like to loose face in front of anyone, so to avoid being insulted they dont engange conversation with strangers unless they really have to (or unless she happens to be a real hot chick).
I have ppl telling my dad, me "oh u are not like the other locals u are nice"
"how many other locals do u know?"
"None..."
"Locals are very lazy, they grab the 7 to 3 jobs and work at the govt. departments"
Pls note: 7-3 is eight hrs.just like the rest of the work force but if u happen to clock in extra time because ur company demands it n u dont get paid for it..u should have read the fine print not our fault ur company does not follow the UAE labor law.
We have more nationals now, we want to encourage emiritazation so we start at our own home first and then proceed towards the pvt companies to hire our new generation.
All govt. departments (all over the world) enjoy more holidays and easy-go attitude.
To confess my father was not born an emarati, but I love this country and ( though my roots may be from Yemen I belong here) to me this is my home.
UAE is a peace loving country, why can't we just co-exist. We need the expats and the tourists(they make this place colorful). We are very tolerant but we have a few values that we highly regard, respect that.
All I say is I know we arent PERFECT but we arent that bad,, cut us some slack and RESPECT.
Cheers

If anyone finds this offensive ,,pls go F*%$ urself.

It was around nine, a young very pretty, highly intelligent, witty, smart,cute,adorable,twenty-something, girl just finished her prayers. A smart-ass-kinda 15yr old comes up to her.
Princess(the 15 yr old): Have u finished praying?
the very pretty, highly intelligent, witty, smart,cute,adorable,twenty-something (me):yeah why?
P:i got the star wars theme music on ur mobile
Me: thnx.
the very pretty ,,,,,(yeah u know what i mean), goes to "sounds", but she couldnt find any ringtone called,"star wars" or anything close so she goes off to the princess.
Me: Your Highness, I cant find it.
P: Dont fret, just hand over the mobile.
The Princess takes the mobile, starts clicking till she finds "recording2",she then plays the recording.
In her own sweet voice she had recorded, ta da tadata ta da (SW theme music).
Big smiles all around.
Now everytime the Princess calls the phone goes,"ta da tadata ta da tada ta....
Cheers

When the weather gets hot.... things just get hotter!!!
Welcome to Dubai. Dubai a city that is currently boosting thanks to tourism.
Here in Dubai we have two seasons.. Hot and Hotter.
From Mid-Nov to end- Feb, the city enjoys the Hot weather. Some ppl refer to this time of the year as the "winter", but they are so mistaken... some of the schools even call it "winter-break". You may find it hysterical now but if you live in this country during the "hotter" season u will appreciate the breeze that sometimes blows in the so called winter.
Dubai sometimes witnesses "rain" during "winter" and it is welcomed by the residents here. This is the time when the DPD and the Insurance make their money. During the "winter", u can never reach anywhere on time as atleast two accidents are guarnteed on every road. Shk Zayed being the favorite.
May, this is the time of the year that the hotter season starts. As it is May we are already experiencing this gifted weather. Whereas the europeans pray for sunlight in December we pray for a cloud in May, and it gets hotter by the minute.
Things to do in the "hotter" season when u are stuck in Dubai.
go to any airconditioned malls of the city
go to a mall
go to a mall
go to a mall
yeah thats what i have got... suggestions are welcome...
you could cruise around in ur airconditioned car .....and get stuck in traffic.
May is also the time when u get to see so many idiots in one place.
Yesterday I was at Costas at City Centre (yes that girl laughing her head off was me)
Arrive early to get good place.... got a mini-booth near the railing, enjoyed 5 cups of coffee , 2 cakes, a chicken sandwhich and one bottle of water during my 3 hr stay there. The servers there are very quick to clear ur table as if to push u out, but unfortunate for them i am a stubborn b*&* h and i wasnt gonna move till i wanted to,,, ok so they made a few bucks out of me ....n no i didnt want to watch STAR WARS so dont even go there and it is fun observing ppl walk by. I made a few friends ... ok i am a bit loud when voicing my comments but hey the guy at the next table thought the same thing.
Welcome Summer, welcome long weekends at the mall.
Cheers

All those of u who drive on Shk Zayed Rd...
The speed limit on the road is 120kmph.
The left-most lane is the "FAST" lane and u drive 120KMPH or faster in this lane taking care to slow down when approaching the radars so as not to get "clicked"
The yellow lay-by is not a lane on its own. It is there so if an accident occurs (which is haey so common) or a car breaks down it can pull over there.
If u want to cruise at 60Kmph , PLEASE move over to the SLOW lane which is on the right.
If u want to drive real slow please stay behind a 16wheeler or a BUS and save the rest of the us the annoyance of tying to overtake u from the slow lanes.
The lady, behind me who was in such a hurry and almost crashed , GURL u deserved it.
I m planning to take one of the wrecked cars from my uncle's garagae, along wiht a 26+ friend and bang all these drivers ,,,so NEXT time they stay where they belong... IN THE SLOW LANE!!!!!!
This guy at work, I dont even talk to (from a diff dep.) got me a present... WEIRD.
Funny incident with a guy in the elevator this morn..
Silly guy: hey
al: morning
SG: u work in this building
al (wanted to say): no i just hop in commercial buildings, coz i like the sound the elevators make early in the morn.
al (said): yeah
SG: which company?
al: *company name*
SG: oh i work for*company name* , we are neighbours hehehehhe
al (smile)
SG: u are local?
al: no , somali
SG: oh, i thought u were local, u are very white for somali
al: no there are white somalis too
SG: oh, bye
i wanted to add, i was adopted by a local family and therefore inherited their color due to evolution and customizing oneself to the environment around..survival of the fittest..but then again i was being nice.
Its only 8 in the morn,,,, thank God for weekends!!!!
cheers

It all started with M gone missing.M is our office boy, he is the man who goes 14 floors down and up when we forget something in the car.He is the man who makes perfect coffee and knows exactly how everyone likes their coffee... He is a genius short of a brain cell.He usually goes "missing".We call it "M missing in Action";we really dont know what is that he does to go missing but highly suspect it being him yaking to his wife on the phone.
E was looking for M and he couldnt find him,M was missing in Action again. This was not good,we normally try to do all to keep the CEO from getting heated up.Being 66 it comes easy to him and at a time like this everyone tries to keep their distant from him.one can never be too far from the CEO unless u intend to get FIRED.
Al comes in picture and dumb ass that she is she actually asks him what he wants.(music in the background... ta da da daaaaaaa.. thats the piano btw).
E just wanted something out of his car, Al offers to run the errand.
We no longer have the basement parking.Everyone parks their car in a yard beside the building..in the SAND.
Al goes in the crouching heat opens the car and sits in it.Ha the leather interior is just so good. She only had to take a file back but instead she starts the car.Starts the music (Texan 60yr olds DO NOT HAVE good taste in music),she opts for the radio. The freaking car actually talks back to u, it says "Hello E".It adjusts your seating with a click of a button.Everytime someone changes the settings just press VALET and then it readjusts to ur setting.
I prolly was in the car for like half an hour till my sis called and asked me where I was.It was then I realised what my errand was.humbug.I locked the car and went back to the office.
When I handed the file to E,he asked me what took me so long.I muterred some nonsense. He smiled at me,"I know the feeling, its just so great sitting there yeah."
Any guesses what car I am talking abt?
Cheers

Its nice to see everyone hit their brakes and the brake lights come up.. in an order one following the other... NEAT... things u can experience only in a city life. Cherish your visions; cherish your ideals; cherish the music that stirs in your heart, the beauty that forms in your mind, the loveliness that drapes your purest thoughts, for out of them will grow delightful conditions, all heavenly environment; of these if you but remain true to them, your world will at last be built. cheers al

7:30 : standing in queue that was 50 ppl wide and i cant recall how long... 8 something we finally get in after all the chking and detection for ammunitions ,,, nah ,, they were chking for cameras... didnt want any PIRACY going on in Dubai now do we?? well one of the reasons we got in earlier was coz the ppl ahead of us started going off FAST..y?? coz they had "camera-phones" n this was one of the"HARAM" things on the list. Panic ticked off in the group of 5 girls that i was in ...we were not going back to deposit our phones and loose our Place..so al has an idea. all the phones get stuffed in her lil bag n when she reaches the point where there were gonna interogate her , lil al takes over the that she is, puts on this real nice smile and says,"I havent got any camera". NEXT!! That is what it took to get inside the arena... whoowf... there were kuwaiti guys in front on us, and kuwaiti girls behind us... (I know coz i made sure by asking!!) It started off with Darine,,,whom no body seemed interested in...DC came in ...loved it .. till Michelle started singing something n i was like," WHAT??" coz she was singing abt being strong and all , this lil kid next to me goes like," oh it is one of her solos ... B-O-R-I-N-G" (oh yeah n she was kuwaiti too!!! hte kid that is) the part that there were like 4-5 guys hitting on me was so so cool coz we all know,AL LOVES ATTENTION... but the sad fact of life ... these guys were like 19 and younger... , i was so in love with Yacoub's frnd. Who is yacoob?? the guy in the ponytail... I know coz Yacoub's frnd kept calling him, and he was the guy!! (yacoub's frnd that is). but i m not really sure if Yacoub's frnd even saw me.. So over all : Lots of Kuwaitis - Fell in love DC was cool Saw kids who didnt have hips wearing real low jeans (dont there parents chk them??) nice cars... n my sis (who didnt go) was saying that the roads of Dubai were empty after 8 Cheers Al
